Food Behind Bars recognised with national Impact Award

We were incredibly proud to be named Impact Award winners at the prestigious Fortnum & Mason Food & Drink Awards, recognising Food Behind Bars' work to improve prison food across the UK.

When we founded Food Behind Bars, we never imagined we'd one day be collecting a national food award. This recognition isn't just for our team – it belongs to the prison catering managers, chefs, prison staff, partners and the many people in prison who have worked alongside us over the years to show that better food really can change lives.

The Impact Award celebrates organisations using food to create meaningful social change, and for us it reinforces something we've believed from the very beginning: that prison food matters. Good food has the power to improve health, dignity and wellbeing, create opportunities for learning, and support rehabilitation.

Since becoming a registered charity in 2020, we've worked alongside prisons across England and Wales to develop healthier menus, create practical resources and support catering teams to deliver lasting change. This award is a celebration of how far we've come together—but it's also a reminder that there's still so much more to do.

As we continue to grow our team, launch new projects and prepare to open The Cookout at HMP Isis, we'll remain focused on what matters most: working alongside prisons to make good food the norm, not the exception.
