We’re Hiring: Food Programme Assistant at HMP Isis

We're looking for a passionate and practical Food Programme Assistant to join our team at The Cookout, our community kitchen and training café inside HMP Isis in southeast London.

The Cookout provides vocational training for young people in prison whilst producing nutritious meals for the local community. As Food Programme Assistant, you'll work alongside our Food Programme Lead to help run the kitchen, support learners in developing hospitality skills, and deliver high-quality food for staff, visitors and community partners.

This is a hands-on role for someone with professional kitchen experience who believes in the power of food, training and second chances.

The role

  • Manage the day-to-day running of the kitchen at The Cookout

  • Prepare and serve fresh, nutritious food

  • Train and mentor learners in kitchen and hospitality skills

  • Help maintain high standards of food safety and organisation

  • Contribute to a positive, supportive learning environment

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working in a professional kitchen (Senior Chef de Partie level or above)

  • Is organised, adaptable and enjoys working as part of a team

  • Has a passion for teaching and supporting others

  • Believes in the mission of Food Behind Bars

Details

Location: HMP Isis, Woolwich, London
Salary: £35,000 pro rata
Hours: 8am–4pm, Monday - Thursday.
Start date: July 2026, subject to vetting
